New Zealand - Broadband - Statistics, Overview and Providers

Attention: There is an updated edition available for this report.

Overall broadband subscriber numbers in New Zealand increased by just over 11% in 2012, which was about the same increase as the previous year. The big percentage growth areas were in mobile broadband and fibre. Fibre subscribers will continue to increase substantially over the coming years as the ultra-fast broadband service for urban dwellers and the Rural Broadband Initiative start to see increased uptake. Increases in mobile broadband subscribers will slow as penetration becomes further saturated.

Meanwhile fixed-mobile broadband may see its uptake increase as the expansion of mobile technologies increases with the RBI rollout adding mobile cells to new areas. For more information on broadband subscribers, see chapter 4.

In this report we provide an outline of the some of the key broadband providers in the New Zealand market as well as overall broadband statistics and estimates of market forecasts into 2013. We also provide an overview of the sector in tabular and charts formats in an easy-to-read format.
