Turkey - Mobile Market - Overview, Statistics and Forecasts
Turkey's mobile market is one of the largest in the region due to its sizeable population. Healthy infrastructure-based competition exists between three mobile network operators that have built GSM/HSPA networks. 3G/HSPA is being used to underpin take up of mobile broadband services, which has overtaken ADSL as Turkey's most popular broadband access method. LTE technology has been trialled by the operators and during 2013 the Turkish government awarded a contract to build a LTE network for civilian and military use. Mobile operators are also increasingly focused on fixed line networks, acquiring existing alterative telcos and Internet Service Providers as well as spending capital to deploy fibre cable access networks. Increasing take up of mobile data services has in turn underpinned growth in mobile content and applications, with mobile payments receiving notable mention due to the country's relatively young population and high credit card penetration. Drawing upon a variety of useful statistics, this report offers an insight into Turkey's mobile sector, covering significant events that have occurred, regulatory developments, the mobile operators and the services they offer.
Mobile broadband has emerged as the most popular broadband access method.
