Sweden - Mobile Infrastructure, Broadband, Operators - Statistics and Analyses

Sweden has one of the most developed markets for LTE services. The regulator s plan to auction spectrum in the 700MHz band at the end of 2016 will further augment the quality of services and extend the availability of mobile broadband in remote areas. A significant proportion of mobile subscribers now make use of LTE services, which for many customers provide a viable alternative to fixed-line broadband. The market has been enervated by greater consumer take-up for mobile data services as competition has forced down prices. With the closing down of the analogue network, spectrum in the 450MHz and 900MHz bands has been put to digital use to provide a national mobile broadband service. Spectrum in the 800MHz and 1800MHz bands is also providing MNOs with additional capabilities for their LTE networks.

Key developments:

Regulator preps to auction spectrum in the 700MHz and 1800MHz bands; Tele2 secures additional loan to expand LTE infrastructure; Net4Mobililty network to provide 90% geographic coverage by end-2016; Telenor launched tri-band LTE to provide data at up to 450Mb/s; TeliaSonera signs up for Ericsson M2M platform; Net 1 upgrades network with CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev B technology in the 450MHz band; H3 launches LTE TDD/FDD dual-mode network; MNOs launch mobile wallet service JV; regulator assigns additional 1800MHz spectrum with generous terms; report update includes the regulator's market data to December 2015, telcos' operating and financial data to Q2 2016, recent market developments.
