Morocco’s mobile market was catapulted above the 100% penetration mark in 2011 after the country’s third mobile network had switched from CDMA2000 to GSM technology. With all three companies also being fixed-line or fixed-wireless operators, the boundaries between fixed and mobile are beginning to disappear as technologies and services converge. In addition, the three mobile networks have become dominant players in the country’s Internet market following the introduction of third-generation (3G) mobile broadband services.

2013 will be an interesting year with 4G/LTE licences planned to be issued and a majority stake in Maroc Telecom, which operates the countrys leading mobile network, up for sale.
