Analysis by Region - Emerging Markets - Niger
Niger's short-term outlook is clouded, but the medium-term outlook is largely favourable owing to the anticipated start of oil exports through a new pipeline: the Niger-Benin oil pipeline. But there are significant downside risks relating to security and the climate. Security risk in the region is causing an influx of refugees from Nigeria, Mali, and Burkina Faso - placing strain on Niger's food security. The "Cadre Harmonise (CH)" analysis estimates that acute food insecurity more than doubled since 2020. The deteriorating regional security situation is a key risk for the government in achieving its developmental goals. Growth is expected to surge from 4.4% this year to 8.0% in 2023 before hitting double-digit territory in 2024.
