Analysis by Region - Africa - Algeria

After benefitting greatly from high oil prices and the opportunity to increase oil production during the past two years, the tide is turning and so is the outlook for the economy. Geopolitical tensions raging on in Eastern Europe and in the Middle East and a slowdown in global economic activity have resulted in Opec+ introducing production cuts to keep oil prices higher. As such, Algeria is forced to reduce oil production by 54,000 bpd during H1 this year. Gas production is also anticipated to be lower this year, and so are European gas prices. Lower hydrocarbon production and prices will have a negative economic impact over the near term.
