Macro - Country Economic Forecasts - Sudan

The ongoing war in Sudan is forecast to trigger the country's seventh consecutive annual economic contraction in 2024. Ever since fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Sudan's main paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), erupted on April 15 last year, business activity in all sectors of the economy has been adversely affected. As such, we have revised our real GDP estimate downwards to a contraction of 22.5% in 2023 from -2.8% previously. Despite peace talks attempts, no clear end to the war is in sight. Nevertheless, our forecasts assume that the war will cease by the end of this year.
