Country Economic Forecasts - Indonesia
The economy may be experiencing more broad-based growth at the beginning of 2018. Exports have regained momentum after some weakness in Q4, while solid growth in consumer and investment goods imports also suggests signs of an improvement in domestic demand. However, strong imports have kept the trade balance in deficit for three consecutive months, which may further undermine the rupiah. Nevertheless, we expect GDP growth to pick up modestly to 5.3% this year, after 5.1% in 2017.
