Country Economic Forecasts - Greece
Greek GDP is now forecast to grow 3.3% in 2022, down from 3.8% seen last month, with activity threatened by renewed Covid infections and rising inflation but still supported by EU funds and related projects. The economy experienced a steady recovery during 2021, with GDP growth seen at 8.8% after a sharp and symmetric drop in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Activity outperformed in H1 last year and continued to expand in Q3, with GDP up 2.7% q/q. But we expect the economy to have contracted marginally in Q4 2021 on the back of rising Covid cases and we have lowered our Q1 forecast before the recovery resumes in Q2. Downside risks to the outlook remain as Covid restrictions remain in place and higher energy prices start to weigh on the economic outlook.
