The Greek economy is gradually recovering from the 7.8% drop last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Despite prolonged restrictions imposed across the country in Q1, activity outperformed during the quarter with GDP rising 4.4% q/q. Moreover, we have raised our forecast for Q2 on the back of the gradual re-opening and an initial pick-up in tourism activity. As a result, we now forecast GDP growth of 5.7% this year, up from 5.2% seen last month. A rebound to 5.9% growth is forecast for 2022, still strongly supported by EU funds and related projects. Risks are now more balanced as the health situation is improving and tourism prospects are recovering, but the spread of the Delta variant could pose threats to the recovery.
