India represents the third largest market for construction equipment in Asia after China and Japan, and offers great potential to grow further. Diesel engines are generally the prime mover for this application, and therefore have an equally high future market potential.
The construction equipment market in the country was 48,883 units in 2015, which is forecast to grow to 73,595 units in 2020. The country’s exports have grown from 1,574 units in 2011 to 7,719 units in 2015, and are predicted to expand further in future. Accordingly, demand for diesel engines from the construction equipment sector is projected to exceed 80,000 units by 2020.
