This report is an update of Off-Highway Research’s analysis of the Chinese agricultural tractor industry that was last published in September 2012, and reviews the trends that took place in the period 2009-2013 and offers a forecast to 2018. The report concentrates on agricultural tractors over 25 horsepower. Small tractors with a simple belt drive transmission or single cylinder engine are excluded from this report, despite their huge population in the country, as they should not be classified as agricultural tractors in the truest sense.
The Department of Agricultural Mechanisation within the Ministry of Agriculture administers and promotes the mechanisation of agriculture. The China Agricultural Machinery Association (CAMA) in Beijing serves as the intermediary organisation between the government and the agricultural equipment industry.
The findings presented in this report are based on information collected during an interview programme with the major manufacturers in the summer of 2014, and reflects their views about the current and future trends in the market.
