Military Trainer Aircraft Market : Opportunities, trends and Challenges (2018-2023)
The Most important phase of a pilot’s career regardless of whether civilian or military is the training phase and that defines and moulds the future performance and effectiveness of the pilot. The pilots are trained in different stages and the number gets reduced as the stage advances as each pilot has specific set of skills suited to either fixed wing, rotor aircraft or fighter so by the time the advanced training stage is reached it is defined as to what a pilot would become, but still even if the pilot has aptitude for Fighter Jets but the pilot is not given training in an advance, hence the results could be disastrous. Initially the Indian Air Force did not have advanced jet trainers and fighter pilots would be straight away moved onto Mig 21 which was a very unforgiving aircraft. The results were fatal as most pilots could not handle the Supersonic Machine.
A trainer is an aircraft which is designed to specifically train the pilots for future roles. It has certain characteristics which differ from regular aircraft like forgiving characteristics like when a pilot makes a mistake he can recover by a little application unlike supersonic fighters who have to be flown with precision, side by side flight controls so that the trainee can see the instructors movement and tandem flight controls in advanced trainers to simulate real flying conditions. The advanced jet trainers simulate a fighter jet but with light weight, light attack capabilities, some countries have used the advanced trainers like Dassault/Dornier alpha jets which were used in light strike roles along with a supersonic fighter aircraft. Multi Engine Trainers like Boeing 707 are used for pilots of fixed wing type of aircraft and aircraft like Boeing T 43 is used for training navigators. In future the advanced jet trainers will have connectivity and integrated data links with ground based radar systems such that they feel that they have these systems onboard.
As long as Manned Aircraft are there, trainers will be required and of all types. The Market for these will only grow as more and more developing countries will start to buy the trainers as their economy expands and defense budgets increase, a case in point is India which now has trainers of all types with the Hawk (their newest addition). The Market in developed countries also will not slow down as replacement will need to be done for the older trainers, but due to the developing countries the market for trainer aircraft is expected to boom.
Though the market's growth rate will suffer due to less demand from the United States, it will be picked up by Asia Pacific and Middle East who are expected to fill the gaps in their arsenal and boost the Military Trainer Aircraft Market.
