According to BP PLC, on the global level, the demand for natural gas is expected to grow strongly till 2040, due to broad-based demand, low-cost supply, and expanding export trade. Also, it was stated by the company that natural gas will overtake oil to become the dominant fuel, accounting for around 60% of the total consumption by 2040 in the region. Seamless flow of natural gas from supply basins to demand centers supported by the ongoing increase in production of natural gas has increased the availability of feedstock for production of syngas in the region. This, in turn, is expected to increase the production of syngas in the region.

Power Generation End Use Will Continue to Dominate the Market

Power generation end use will continue to dominate the Middle East & African market for syngas during the forecast period. High level of economic growth and improvement in quality of life in countries such as South Africa, Qatar, Nigeria, and Saudi Arabia, among others, is expected to drive the power generation end use. According to the Arab Petroleum Investments Corporation (APICORP), the total investment in the energy sector in the MENA region is projected at USD 622 billion for the next five years. This increase in investment in the energy sector is expected to increase the power generated from syngas. In addition, increase in demand for uninterrupted power supply for the region's industries and homes is expected to increase the consumption of electricity, which in turn, is expected to drive the syngas market for power generation end use during the forecast period.

Saudi Arabia to Lead the Market

Saudi Arabia is projected to dominate the syngas market during the forecast period, due to the growing energy consumption. Growing industrial activities, coupled with increase in electricity consumption due to rise in population, has increased the production of syngas. In 2015, the Ministry of Energy, Industry, and Mineral Resources stated its plan to move away from oil and instead, add more natural gas and renewable sources to its energy mix. This shift from traditional energy sources to alternative energy during the forecast period is expected to drive the production of syngas in the region.
