High-End Accelerometer Market - Segmented by Application (Tactical Applications, Navigational Applications, Industrial Applications) and Region - Growth, Trends and Forecast (2018 - 2023)

The High-End Accelerometer Market was valued at USD 193.59 million in 2017, and is expected to reach USD 248.16 million by 2023, with a CAGR of 4.2%, over the forecast period (2018 - 2023). The report is segmented by Application (Tactical Applications, Navigational Applications, and Industrial Applications) and Region.

High-end accelerometers are primarily used in high-grade applications for calculating the magnitude and direction of acceleration. Piezoelectric, capacitive, and geophone technologies drive these systems as they have achieved reduced size and low-cost capabilities. The increasing adoption of MEMS technology has played a significant role in expanding the application base for high-end accelerometers by scaling down the size and power consumption of these devices, without compromising on performance metrics.

The applications for high-end accelerometers include anti-ballistic missiles, naval, and aerospace vehicles. These applications require an operating range between 10G and 100G, with a dynamic range of 140/160 dB.

Navigational Applications is Expected to Fuel the Growth
High sensitivity accelerometers are crucial for the next generation navigation and guidance systems, including tight coupling to existing GPS engines, pressure sensors, and platform stabilization for space applications. Conventional guidance systems operate within a working range of 5g, with a bias stability range of 6-20mg. On the other hand, aeronautics navigational systems operate with the greater working range of 2g-15g, with bias stability of around 1mg. High-end accelerometers are also deployed in stabilization systems with a working range of 2g and bias stability of less than 2mg. The incentive for a MEMS-based inertial accelerometer for navigational applications is based upon the hopes of realizing a small, low cost, lightweight, and highly-sensitive alternative to existing macro-scale approaches. The successful fabrication of a low cost, high-sensitivity MEMS accelerometer results in new applications for both consumer and military users that aren’t feasible with current technologies.

North America is expected to Have Largest Market Share

The North American region is witnessing a growth in the development of new high-performance accelerometers, as companies in the region are investing in introducing advanced and innovative accelerometers. The increased spending by the US defense to acquire high performance equipment is the major factor driving the growth of high-end accelerometers in the country. Moreover, according to the Small Business Innovation Research (or SBIR) program, the objective of the US Navy is to develop and demonstrate an innovative acceleration technology applicable to inertial navigation, real-time gravimetry, and gradient measurements that can be met by introducing improvements and innovative changes to an existing government-owned accelerometer technology.

Increasing mining and exploration activities in the region also pose a higher demand for high-end accelerometers, which are expected to witness increased adoption. According to the Mining Engineering, the United States and Canada accounted for 33.33% of active mineral exploration sites in 2017.

Key Developments in the Market
