Europe Expected to Witness a High Usage of Unmanned Marine Vehicles
United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense (MoD) signed an agreement with ASV Global, which allows the company to utilize the advances Unmanned Surface Vehicle Capabilities. The Defense Science and Technology Laboratory has been working on an Advanced USV capability project which is further expected to grow the adoption of USVs in the defense sector, driving the development of autonomous navigation systems for USV’s to operate at a variety of speeds. Furthermore, the UK Ministry of Defense negotiated a deal wherein it is set to spend GBP 17 million on a fleet of sea drones on a contractual basis with French arms giant Thales. The development of drones will be carried out by the MoD’s French counterpart, the Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA). According to MoD the vehicles will be primarily used for mine clearance. This initiative aspires to increase two kinds of unmanned maritime vehicle: a submarine and a surface craft, which are expected to meet the operational criteria of both the nations namely France and England
