Global MDI (Methylene Diphenyl Di isocyanate) Market
Governor of Louisiana, John Bel Edwards and Zengtai Liao, Chairman and CEO of Wanhua Chemical Group Co., Ltd., announced that the company will develop a chemical manufacturing complex in the state, with plans for the USD 1.12 billion project, leading to a specific site selection later this year. Wanhua produces around 1.8 million tons/year of MDI or about 24% of the world’s total capacity.
Takht-e-Jamshid Petrochemical Complex and the second phase of Karoun Petrochemical Company (KRNPC) were officially inaugurated on Feb 6, 2017, in Mahshahr Special Petrochemical Economic Zone in Khuzestan Province by the first Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri.
The Karoun project, jointly implemented by Iranian companies and the Swedish engineering group Chematur Engineering AB at a cost of USD 375 million, will produce around 40,000 tons of methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and toluene diisocyanate (TDI) per year.
The global market for methylene diphenyl di-isocyanate (MDI), valued at USD XX million (by revenue) and XX Kilometric tons (by volume) in 2016, is estimated to reach USD XX million (by revenue) and XX Kilometric tons in 2017(by volume) and is forecasted to record about USD XX million (by revenue) and XX kilotons (by volume), respectively, by 2022, registering a CAGR of X.X% and X.X%, respectively, during 2017-2022 (the forecast period).
Methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) is a member of the di-isocyanate family associated with polyurethane chemistry.
The MDI market is driven by the Increasing usage in polyurethane foam production and its unique features and functional versatility. Excessive exposure of MDI can be hazardous and cause skin & respiratory tract irritation, asthma and dermatitis, thus affecting the market.
The MDI market has been segmented on the basis of its application and end-user industries. By application, the market is segmented into rigid foam, flexible foam, coatings, elastomers, adhesives & sealants and others. The rigid foam sub-segment is the largest and estimated to register a CAGR XX%, by 2022. Based on end-user industries, the market for MDI is segmented into construction, furniture & interiors, electronics & appliances, automotive, footwear and others.
The market has been segmented, based on the geography, into Asia-Pacific (APAC), North America, Europe, South America and the Middle East & Africa (MEA).
