Australia Water Treatment Chemicals Market - Segmentation by Product, Application, and End-user Industry - Growth, Trends, and Forecast (2018 -2023)

The Australian water treatment chemical market is estimated to witness a CAGR of 6.15% during the forecast period, 2018-2023. Factors, such as increasing demand for water from power & industrial sector, reduced freshwater content from saline intrusion, adverse climatic conditions, and increasing regulatory drivers for reliable wastewater management are driving the demand for water treatment chemicals market in Australia.

Increasing Demand for Water from Power and Industrial Sector
Australia’s vast experience of drought and flood conditions has placed the water industry in the country in a unique position to capitalize on its significant capabilities and strengths in the management of water resources. The power sector is one of the major end users of water. Water in the power generation industry is used in many ways, for instance, for steam production for spinning turbines, humidifying airflow into gas turbines, steam injection for NOx control, hydraulic ash disposal, etc. Besides this, the other industries, including food & beverage, mining, exploration, and processing, smelting, and refining also contributes substantially to the demand for fresh water. Such a huge demand for fresh water from power & industrial sector is becoming a problem for a water-stressed country, such as Australia. Hence, such a scenario has led to increase in the adoption of water treatment technologies and chemicals in order to treat wastewater. Thus, with the increasing demand for water from such industries, along with the growing regulations related to the fresh water supply is further driving the demand for wastewater treatment chemicals during the forecast period.

Largest Consumer of Corrosion & Scale Inhibitors
Among product types, Australia is the largest consumer of corrosion & scale inhibitors. Corrosion inhibitors are general purpose chemicals, applied to deal with corrosion caused in boilers. Corrosion occurs due to the reaction of oxygen with metallic parts in a boiler to form oxides, thereby increasing the cost of energy and maintenance. Corrosion inhibitors act by forming a thin layer of barrier over the exposed parts of the boiler from the water.  There are several types of corrosion inhibitors used in water boilers. These include Condensate Line Corrosion Inhibitor, Deha - Diethyl Hydroxyl Amine, Polyamine, Morpholine, Cyclohexylamine, and Carbon Dioxide Corrosion Inhibitor. Besides this, scale inhibitors are used to remove scales through chemical action.  These can be broadly grouped into three types, namely -Phosphates, Polymers, and Chelant. Corrosion and scale inhibitors are used mostly in the boiler and cooling water treatment plants to escape from corrosion from metals. In Australia, these corrosion & scale inhibitors are used by municipal and water authorities, commercial buildings & hospitals, etc., industrial consumers such as oil & gas, pulp & paper, mining, etc.
