Chinese e-Commerce is growing at an astounding rate as internet usage becomes more widespread and the average income of Chinese consumers continues to grow. Rapid growth in online shopping has led to unique solutions for online payment tailored to consumers that historically are accustomed to dealing in cash. Today, a variety of payment options are offered by China's online merchants, ranging from online payment to mobile point of sale (MPOS).
Unlike many developed economies, where most transactions are processed by credit card, in China, more payments are processed through the platforms of third-party payment providers. This report explores consumers' online shopping habits and use of available payment channels through a series of surveys, covering over 3 years, with a particular focus on the use of third-party payment providers.
