Synopsis

Key highlights

  • The oil and gas market volume is defined as the total consumption (barrels of oil equivalent) of refined petroleum products and natural gas by end-users in each country.
  • The Indian oil & gas market had total revenues of $76,361.7m in 2017, representing a compound annual rate of change (CARC) of -13.1% between 2013 and 2017.
  • Market consumption volume increased with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.2% between 2013 and 2017, to reach a total of 2 billion barrels of oil equivalent in 2017.
  • Despite the crude oil segment dominating the wider Indian oil and gas market, the natural gas segment should witness strong growth in the coming years as India seeks to increase the share of natural gas in its power mix to 15% by the year 2020. In order to achieve this target the Indian government in February 2018 announced that it is aiming to construct 11 new liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminals in the country within the next seven years. This would result in the country importing 70 million tons of LNG per annum. The natural gas segment should as such witness strong growth in the forecast period.
