For instance, the German company Bosch and the Chinese e-bike maker Yadea have entered in a strategic partnership for technological innovation and quality improvement. This partnership has significantly improved e-bikes and has helped manufacturers provide consumers with 18-month warranties. In addition, this deal has also helped the manufacturer offer e-bikes with 15% greater range, 13% greater power, and an extended battery life of 180 days. These types of collaboration will increase sales and promote consumer confidence and satisfaction.”
According to the report, li-ion batteries have emerged as a better alternative for e-bike applications due to their high energy density and longer life cycle as compared to lead-acid and nickel metal hydride batteries. The majority of new electric vehicles being manufactured are now equipped with Li-ion batteries. The share of Li-ion batteries in e-bikes has grown gradually. This slow growth was due to the high cost of the technology. But the prices of Li-ion batteries should decrease during the forecast period. In addition, production capacities of Li-ion batteries have risen considerably in Japan and worldwide, and this is expected to continue in the future. Therefore, the probability of oversupply of these batteries in the near term remains high. Battery manufacturers have achieved significant cost reductions in Li-ion battery packs in the past few years.
