It is a large cooking stove with burners or hotplates and one or more ovens. A prototypical stove is usually about 30 inches wide, while a range measures about 36 to 60 inches wide. Ranges may have six, eight, or upto 10 burners, but in regular stoves the number of burners is limited to four. Ranges are usually powered by electricity, gas or a combination of the two.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said: “One trend in the market is smart homes augmenting the demand for smart kitchen ranges. Consumers have become tech-savvy and gained knowledge regarding the use and benefits of modern appliances due to the thrust on digitalization. The increase in the standards of living of most European consumers is boosting the demand for connectivity-enabled smart kitchen appliances.”
According to the report, one driver in the market is product upgrades and new designs increasing demand for kitchen ranges. The buying trend of household appliances in Europe depends primarily on replacement purchases because almost all European homes are equipped with kitchen ranges. The vendors in the market are focusing on introducing innovative features and technology upgrades to entice consumers for upgrade purchases. For instance, in 2015, Samsung Electronics has upgraded its Flex Duo Oven Range with a dual door, which offers two doors that have been integrated into one range.
Further, the report states that one challenge in the market is infrequent purchases and high average replacement cycle. The average life cycle of kitchen ranges hinders the growth of the market. Most kitchen range purchases are replacement purchases with an average replacement cycle of eight to ten years. Moreover, they are expensive and considered as a one-time expenditure by many consumers. Many residential consumers are reluctant to invest in kitchen ranges as they assume that returns on investment for these appliances are not substantial and that their costs overweight their benefits.
