HUD Market for Civil Aviation in France 2015-2019
HUD displays key flight information onto a transparent screen positioned in front of the pilot's line of sight. HUDs are used in the automotive and aviation sectors as they increase situational awareness and enhance safety margins. The primary components of HUDs are:
Technavio Announces the Publication of its Research Report – HUD Market for Civil Aviation in France 2015-2019
Technavio recognizes the following companies as the key players in the HUD Market for Civil Aviation in France: BAE Systems, Elbit Systems, Esterline Technologies, Honeywell Aerospace, Rockwell Collins, Saab Group and Thales Group
Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said: “Adoption of multipurpose helicopters is gaining traction in civil aviation worldwide because it can be used for different purposes such search and rescue, and troop transport. Multipurpose helicopters have high payload capacity and eliminated the need for particular helicopter required for specific operation, thus reducing the capital expenditure. Technavio expects, the demand for multi-purpose helicopters will grow during the forecast period. This is because the private helicopters operators in oil and gas sector are also performing search and rescue operations for oil companies.”
According to the report, the introduction of various microdisplay technologies such as CRT, DLP, LCD, LCoS, and LED have led HUD manufacturers to develop efficient HUDs with a large field of view and minimum aberrations. This technology also minimizes image distortion on the display screen. The NG display technologies such as optical waveguides and MEMS-based laser scanning allow HUD manufacturers to reduce the size of HUDs, as these technologies can be easily integrated in small footprint. Unlike the CRT and SSL technologies, these offer high resolution images, readability in all lighting conditions, and low installation costs. Since, the space above the pilot's head, where HUDs are usually installed is small, these innovations will allow manufacturers to develop HUDs that require less space than conventional ones.
Further, the report states that the absence of a common set of HUD-specific rules and regulation will result in complex certification process, which is posing a problem in terms of compliance with varied standards.
