The demand for lightweight armors and engine components is increasing. Aircraft manufacturers are considering technical ceramics as a substitute for conventional alloys and metals. Therefore, more technical ceramics components are likely to be used in aircraft engines produced between 2015-2022. According to the report, increased use of technical ceramics in high-temperature applications will be a key driver for market growth. Lightweight and low conductive technical ceramics are used in insulation applications to conserve energy by preventing heat loss from furnaces and kilns. These materials help in saving more than 21% of the energy, thereby reducing overall operational costs. The industrial sector accounts for more than 30% of the total fuel consumption globally; an estimated 25% of which is wasted. Poor heat management in conversion processes accounts for more than 45% of the total energy lost in industrial processes. This loss of energy can be reduced with the use of products made of technical ceramics. This factor is boosting the demand of technical ceramics globally.

Further, the report states that issue in adoption of recyclability and reparability will be a challenge for market growth. Technical ceramics cannot be reused or recycled in the same application. Due to the long lifespan and mechanical and optical properties of technical ceramics, the different composites used in the various end-use industries face the issue of recyclability and reparability. This is a major challenge for the global technical ceramics market. Further, internal wear and tear and cracks in ceramic structures are hard to find. Therefore, skilled personnel and sophisticated equipment are required to find such anomalies; this increases costs for the end users.
