This offers opportunities for vendors providing tampons. This segment can afford to spend on hygiene and sanitary products frequently. The rapid increase in tampon sales in the emerging markets has encouraged vendors to develop better-quality tampons to serve the large female population in these countries. Hence, the tampons market in APAC is expected to witness the fastest growth rate compared with the tampons market in developed economies. According to Cotton Incorporated, only 2% of China's total women population used tampons in 2015. As of December 2015, China had 377 million women population aged 15-50 years who are most likely to use tampons if proper knowledge and information is provided to them about the advantages of usage of tampons in place of sanitary pads and panty liners. The growth of the e-commerce market in Brazil, Russia, India, and China (BRIC) will also boost the tampons market as customers can buy branded tampons online. According to the report, over the past few years, the penetration rate for usage of tampons across developing regions has improvement from the previous years. This can be well-illustrated from the rise in promotions, education, and initiatives taken by the governments and NGOs. The growing availability of tampons at subsidized rates has made them more affordable for women. Likewise, with the growing per capita disposable income, women belonging to urban areas and the middle-income segment are able to purchase high absorbent tampons that are usually expensive. India, Indonesia, and China are expected to have a high penetration of tampons due to a rise in their gross domestic product. This will positively affect the global tampons market during the forecast period.

Further, the report states that even though tampons offer several advantages, they also cause certain harmful side effects to the user. The pollutants in the cotton used in tampons and the chemicals used in the manufacturing of tampons have raised concerns across the globe. Many tampons also use rayon, which is generally bleached before it is added to the tampon. This has been the cause of deaths for a number of women. Its major symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, low blood pressure, dizziness, red eyes, rashes, and high fever. Though women have been advised against using tampons for more than eight hours, advanced and highly absorbent tampons tend to be used for more than the recommended hours, which increases the chances of bacterial infections. This factor is hampering their acceptance and adoption in the market.
