Bulk productions of SiC are carried out through several synthetic routes. It is one of the toughest materials for high temperature applications. SiC is manufactured industrially by mixing high-purity quartz with carbon (high-quality coke or anthracite) at approximately 2,000°C in an electric resistance furnace.
