About Signal Intelligence System
Signal intelligence (SIGINT) is information/intelligence gathering by interception of signals, which includes either communication signals or electronic signals of a given target. SIGINT systems form one of the core systems in military defense and fall under the category intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR). SIGINT systems provide intelligence on: Threat capabilities, Disposition, Composition, and Intentions.
Technavio’s analysts forecast the global signal intelligence system market to grow at a CAGR of 6.25% during the period 2017-2021.

Technavio Announces the Publication of its Research Report – Global Signal Intelligence System Market 2017-2021
Technavio recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global signal intelligence system market: BAE Systems, Elbit Systems, General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman, and Saab.
Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI), Mercury Systems, Rockwell Collins, Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), and Ultra Electronics.
Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said: “One trend in the market is small size SIGINT systems. Since several years, one of the major concerns regarding the use of SIGINT systems on UAV is the size and weight of the payload. With several SIGINT system OEMs launching smaller, stronger, and more advanced systems to cater to the rising demand for UAV SIGINT systems, this concern is likely to get resolved.”
According to the report, one driver in the market is promising market in emerging economies. One of the prime drivers of the global SIGINT system market is the growing contributions by the emerging economies of the world. Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI), in 2017, entered into several contracts, worth $30 million, to supply SIGINT systems to customers in Asia and Europe. ELTA Systems, a subsidiary of IAI, received a contract to supply advanced COMINT system to a European customer, in 2017. The COMINT system will provide real-time intelligence information at both strategic and tactical levels.
Further, the report states that one challenge in the market is high grade encryption. Signals and communications between two different military devices are usually encrypted. This information can be categorized into various levels, such as secret, top secret, and classified. Higher the importance of the information, stronger is the encryption levied upon. SIGINT systems are helpful in identifying and tracking the foreign signals containing information, but decrypting this information requires the use of cryptanalysis, which is a challenging task. Also, on many occasions, the information fails to be decrypted.
