Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said that development of next generation wireless networks is one of the trends spurring growth for the market. The growing popularity of mobile communication devices is resulting in an increase in network traffic. This is leading to the increased deployment of next-generation wireless networks, such as 3G, 4G, and 5G, worldwide. These technologies offer wireless connection similar to home broadband connections. This, in turn, increases the number of users accessing the Internet from anywhere, at any time.

According to the report, increasing data traffic is a key driver aiding to the growth of this market. Financial services are one of the most data-intensive industries. Global mobile data traffic increased by 74% in 2015. Global mobile traffic data had an average of 3.7 exabytes per month in 2015 while it was 2.1 exabytes per month in 2014. Fifty-five percent of the mobile traffic data was from mobile video traffic. 4G data traffic was higher when compared to 3G data traffic in 2015. Though only 14% of the connections were 4G, they accounted for 47% of the total data traffic in 2015. 3G had 34% connections and accounted for 43% of the total traffic in 2015.

An increase in the number of frequency bands, modulation schemes, carrier aggregation, and power amplifier modes to support the growing mobile data traffic is resulting in high RF front-end complexity. However, the existing RF front-end technology has only a limited number of OEMs that have the ability to develop a single reference design that will work in all regions.
