A PIR motion sensor detects infrared (IR) radiation to detect the presence of an object in its close proximity. Most objects with temperature exceeding absolute zero generally radiate heat energy at the wavelengths of infrared lights. A PIR-based sensor device does not generate any heat while detecting IR radiation. The sensors are capable of identifying the difference in IR radiations when an object is overlapping the primary subject of IR radiation detection. Benefits of using PIR motion sensors are that these sensors use less power and are rarely activated by airflow.
