About Marine Air Conditioning Systems
The principle behind air conditioning is the movement of heat. An air conditioner pulls the
heat from the air by transferring the heat in the cabin to the refrigerant gas within the air
conditioner. A marine air conditioner then transfers the heat from the refrigerant gas to the
sea water. The process can also be reversed, the air conditioner can pull heat from the sea
water and transfer that heat to the cabin. This is called reverse cycle air conditioning.
Technavio’s analysts forecast the global marine air conditioning systems market to grow at a CAGR of 6.72% during the period 2017-2021.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said: “The latest trend gaining momentum in the market is M&As and alliances. The increasing competitiveness in the shipping industry is subject to unpredictable ups and downs. Ports and shipping companies in such a volatile scenario are struggling to stay competitive in terms of costs and services. Ports across the globe are fighting to attract shipping lines and offering efficient services and better facilities. On the other hand, shipping companies are adding fuel-efficient ships to their fleets to cut down operating costs, and trimming down port assets and third-party logistics. Another key trend that has been observed in the maritime industry is the formation of new alliances by shipping companies to cover certain trade routes, and sharing ship and port operations.”
According to the report, one of the major drivers for this market is Robust growth in commercial shipping. Globalization has been the key growth driver for the global commercial shipping market. Since economies across the globe are all interlinked, world trade volume is also affected by the health of the global economy. Seaborne trade, which is the backbone of international trade, rises along with global economic expansion. Therefore, economic development and growth have resulted in enormous opportunities for the marine industry, especially due to the global demand for and supply of commodities and manufactured goods.
Further, the report states that one of the major factors hindering the growth of this market is Safety issues and piracy threats. Globalization and economic interlinking of countries are facilitated by the shipping industry. However, the threat of piracy continues to be a major concern for the global maritime industry. The increase in piracy in the Gulf of Aden in 2016 highlights the vulnerability the shipping industry possess. Piracy peaked in the Gulf of Aden in 2011, following which many regional and international naval forces were stationed in the region. There was a transitory decline in piracy, and it seemed that the region is entering a period of piracy-free tranquility but then, suddenly, instances of robbery along the sea route surged between 2015-2016.
