Global Industrial Communication Market 2017-2021
About Industrial Communication
Industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet are widely used in office networks for data transfers. In the recent times, communication protocols are used in factory floors to meet communication needs of industrial applications. The industrial plant's environment is harsh with extreme temperature conditions, humidity, and vibration. Industrial-based devices are designed to be rugged to withstand such extreme conditions and function effectively. Industrial communication can be performed using three protocols, namely Fieldbus, Ethernet, and wireless.
Technavio’s analysts forecast the global industrial communication market to grow at a CAGR of 12.79% during the period 2017-2021.Covered in this report
The report covers the present scenario and the growth prospects of the global industrial communication market for 2017-2021. To calculate the market size, the report considers the revenue generated from sales and aftermarket services of industrial Ethernet (IE) and wireless protocols used in devices by the market participants, for both process and discrete industries globally, is covered in this report.
The market is divided into the following segments based on geography:
Press Release
Technavio Announces the Publication of its Research Report – Global Industrial Communication Market 2017-2021
Technavio recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global industrial communication market: ABB, Rockwell Automation, Schneider Electric, and Siemens.
Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Advantech, Beckhoff Automation, Cisco Systems, Emerson Electric, Endress+Hauser, General Electric, Infineon Technologies, National Instruments, TE Connectivity, and Texas Instruments.
Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said: “One trend in market is integration of Fieldbus with IIoT. The Fourth Industrial Revolution has led to the integration of IIoT with Fieldbus. The integration is mostly seen in industries adopting modern industrial automation and control systems because of their need for better connectivity, safety and security, and high performance. Fieldbus offers data on device status, diagnostic alerts, process variables, and configuration parameters on real-time through IIoT. This setup is constantly monitored for plant operations to identify whether a device is configured properly and operating optimally.”
According to the report, one driver in market is growing demand from water and wastewater treatment industry. The growing population in urban areas worldwide has led to increased demand for high-quality water for household use and or drinking. Developed economies already have well-established water treatment infrastructure. However, they lack proper distribution facilities. This is exposing the water to contamination risks during the transportation process. Various European nations have technologically advanced industrial water treatment infrastructure and are focusing more on municipal water treatment infrastructure. Germany and the UK are expected to invest heavily in developing municipal water treatment infrastructure by 2019.
Further, the report states that one challenge in market is lack of determinism in industrial communication networks. Determinism describes the ability of a communication protocol to ensure that the message or packet is sent or received in a fixed or predictable amount of time. It is essential for critical control applications in industrial automation. ICS requires real-time information transfer. In an enterprise network, a few seconds of network delay is tolerable. However, in an industrial control setting, even one second of network interruption can hamper the production process gravely. If the data packet sent through Ethernet is a control variable for a high-speed computer numerical control (CNC) machine, speed and bandwidth loss can be disastrous. This can hamper the safety of onsite personnel. The time taken by any given data packet to reach its destination on an Ethernet local area network (LAN) is unpredictable and cannot be determined. This makes it difficult to execute real-time control of machines through Ethernet.
