About Hip Implant

Hip replacement is an orthopedic surgical procedure in which the damaged hip joint is replaced with an artificial joint. An artificial joint usually made from metal, ceramic, or polymeric components. The surgery is performed either by traditional technique or by minimally invasive technique. The hip replacement surgery is generally performed in patients to relieve them from arthritis pain or hip fracture. Hip replacement surgery can be total hip replacement (replacing the entire hip), partial replacement (replacing half of the joint with an artificial surface, leaving the other part in its natural state), and hip surfacing (replacing damaged bone and cartilage within the socket is removed and replaced with a metal shell).

Press Release

Technavio Announces the Publication of its Research Report – Global Hip Implant Market 2015-2019

Technavio recognizes the following companies as the key players in the Global Hip Implant Market: DePuy Synthes (a Johnson & Johnson Company), Smith & Nephew plc, Stryker and Zimmer Holdings

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Aesculap Implant Systems (a B. Braun company), Arthrex, ConforMIS, Corentec, Corin, Elite Surgical, EUROS FRANCE, Evolutis, FH ORTHOPEDICS, Integra LifeSciences, Lima Corporate, Medacta, Ortosintese, Peter Brehm, Shanghai MicroPort Orthopedics, Surgival, Synergie Ingénierie Médicale and Tornier

Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said: “The increase in obesity rates is expected to have a positive influence on the growth of the market. Obesity causes accumulation of excess fat impairing health. It is the leading cause of arthritis of the knees. It is estimated that those in the highest quintile of weight have 10 times more knee osteoarthritis than those in the lowest quintile.”

According to the report, the increase in the aging population is the major contributor to the growth of the market. The risk of developing arthritis increases as a person starts aging. Approximately 841 million people were estimated to be aged 60 years and above in 2013, and this number is expected to double by 2050.

Further, the report states that post-surgery complications are one of the key challenges that the market faces. These difficulties arise because of defective devices. The recovery and rehabilitation period post-surgery is quite long. This surgery may cause blood clots, ligament or artery damage, fractures, and wound infections.
