Global High-Performance Electric Motorcycle Market 2017-2021
About High-Performance Electric Motorcycle
Electric motorcycles are becoming an integral part of the global motorcycle market, with rising focus on emission control. The global motorcycle industry has two segments, one segment is of high-performance motorcycles (considered as a premium), and the other segment consists of two-wheelers used for commuting. Both these segments operate under contrasting market dynamics with different customer behavior and value chains.
Technavio’s analysts forecast the global high-performance electric motorcycle market to grow at a CAGR of 41.80% during the period 2017-2021.

Technavio Announces the Publication of its Research Report – Global High-Performance Electric Motorcycle Market 2017-2021
Technavio recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global high-performance electric motorcycle market: Energica Motor Company, Lightning Motorcycle, SAROLÉA, and Zero Motorcycles.
Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: ALTA MOTORS, Bell Custom Cycles (BCC), CAKE, KTM Sportmotorcycle, Lito, Polaris Industries, Saietta Group, Emflux Motors, Johammer e-mobility, Torkmotors, and ZecOO- THE ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE.
Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said: “One trend in the market is development of long mile range motorcycles. High-performance electric motorcycles are the known for their power and mile range. Although their mile range is quite larger than low-powered motorcycles, it is not enough for premium pricing. Hence, OEMs are continuously working toward the development of battery technology so that mile range bridge between these motorcycles and ICE- counterparts is reduced.”
According to the report, one driver in the market is decreasing battery prices allowing OEMs to push cost benefit toward customers. The adoption of electric motorcycles is dependent on the battery. Battery technology plays a key role because it decides the mile range and charging time for electric motorcycles. Battery accounts for 25% of the total cost hence, it affects the profitability and adoption rate. The evolution from the traditional lead-acid battery to Li-ion battery has led to eight times better performance. The market is facing continuous improvement in battery technology, which increases the battery energy density.
Further, the report states that one challenge in the market is high purchasing cost of high-performance electric motorcycles. High-performance electric motorcycles are more expensive than conventional ICE motorcycles. High-performance electric motorcycles face intense competition from ICE motorcycles regarding initial costs and the total cost of ownership. Generally, the initial cost of electric motorcycles is higher than ICEs, but the total cost of ownership is more for ICEs due to maintenance and fuel charges. If we compare 2014 Zero SR with Ducati Monster 821, the cost of Ducati is $11,495, and that of Zero SR is $17,345.
