The gas can escalate global warming and this has increased the need to replace the gas with an alternative medium. The n2/SF6 mixture acts as a good insulation medium even at low SF6 content. The dielectric strength of N2/SF6 is equivalent to pure SF6 at a moderate pressure increase. However, the arc quenching ability of N2/SF6 at current zero and current interruption performance is poor in this mixture. This mixture can be only used in high voltage equipment without switching to devices such as a gas-insulated line.”
