Global Face Shield Screen Market 2017-2021
About Face Shield Screen
The global market for the face shield screen is expected to be driven by the increasing demand from key end-user industries such as manufacturing and construction. The increasing demand for polycarbonate face shield screen and application specific face shield screen are also factors that are driving the growth of the market. Stringent regulations and on-site free consultation on the use of personal protective equipment, including face shield screen, have resulted in increased consumption from North America and Western Europe.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said: “One trend in market is preference for anti-fog face shield screen. One of the common problems faced by workers is the fogging inside the face shield and eyewear. The fogging can hinder the performance of a worker as the visibility gets restricted. Fogging is the result of temperature and humidity difference inside and outside of a face shield screen. The hot air inside the face shield becomes saturated with moisture and results in condensation. It is a common occurrence in extreme heat work environments such as operations in a furnace and metal molding. Therefore, manufacturers are now offering face shield screens with anti-fog coating, and this has seen an increasing demand in the market.”
According to the report, one driver in market is demand from manufacturing industry. A face shield screen covers the entire face of a user as a protection against harmful objects, such as sharp glass particles, wood dust, metal particles, and harmful aerosols. Similarly, it also protects from heat applications by covering the entire face of a user. The face shield screen offers protection to eyes, face, and the respiratory tract. Operations in manufacturing industries, such as paper mills, wood sawmills, metal fabrication, and food processing plants, involve the scattering of minute particles that can be harmful to eyes as well as respiration. Chemical plants include hazardous splashes of acids and organic solvents that can be dangerous if they come in contact with the skin. There are more than 20,000 chemicals that can cause ocular lesions and burns in case of single or repeated contact. It is estimated that around 90% of chemical burns to the eye are unavoidable and therefore, wearing the correct PPE can reduce such accidents by half. The face shield screen can offer maximum protection against such injuries. Despite the fact that safety goggles are worn for protecting the eyes, it is recommended to use the face shield screen to enhance protection not only to the eyes but also to the face. The following exhibit shows some accident cases in a chemical plant caused due to workers not wearing adequate face protective gear.
Further, the report states that one challenge in market is performance limitations. Face shield screens are intended to provide protection to the eyes and the entire face and neck from hazardous objects, such as sand particles, dirt, splashes, fumes, and intense light. However, face shield screen only provides a secondary protection. A secondary protection can only be used when the user is equipped with primary protection, such as eyewear or respiratory mask. This can lead to non-compliance by workers as they might opt for only primary protection and avoid the secondary since wearing multiple PPE can make it uncomfortable to work. Key safety authorities in various countries vouch for the use of face shield screens for secondary protection. For instance, in the US, OSHA recommends the use of primary as well as secondary eye and face protection. Impact injuries majorly occur from sparks striking the eyes and flying objects, while falling objects can cause abrasions, punctures, and contusions. These impact hazards can be avoided by using face shields that are transparent and tough. However, OSHA states that wearing face shield alone cannot protect the workers from impact hazards. It should be worn along with primary protection such as safety goggles to have complete safety at the workplace.
