Elastomeric couplings are a form of flexible coupling employing an elastic material for transmission of torque. The couplings work without lubrication, thus requiring minimal maintenance services. Coupling systems are used to transfer power between two shafts, in which one shaft is powered by an engine or motor, and the other is unpowered. They act as a medium to transmit power from the powered shaft to the non-powered shaft and connect the two discrete systems. The coupling systems are also helpful when multiple shafts are connected for transmitting power over long distances. They eliminate the chances of shafts getting misaligned and ensure smooth transmission of power. Couplings also have applications in the areas of connecting railway coaches and within cars.
