Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said: “A large number of manufacturers are adding gluten-free dried food offerings to their product portfolio owing to the growing awareness about celiac disease. For example, Alpineaire Foods under Katadyn Group, one of the renowned manufacturers of dried ready meals, offers gluten-free Spicy Sausage Pasta (Pork) and Beef Burrito Bowl. According to research studies, it was estimated that one in 10 new food and drink products was launched globally with a gluten-free claim in 2015. In April 2015, Ancient Harvest launched two new varieties of gluten-free pastas, Bean and Lentil Supergrain Pastas and Lentil and Quinoa Supergrain Mac & Cheese.”

According to the report, hectic lifestyles of consumers and the need for leisure have further increased the demand for convenience food products. This need for convenience has also led to the growth of dried ready meals, dried pasta and noodles, and several other dried processed food products that require minimal time for preparation. In addition, the need for more leisure time is thus driving the demand for convenience food products worldwide.

Further, the report states that the harmful effects associated with the consumption of preservatives present in dried food products pose hindrance to market growth. Most dried food products contain various preservatives such as monosodium glutamate, potassium sorbate, and sodium phosphate. In dried noodles, monosodium glutamate and tertiary-butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ) are used due to their taste enhancing and preserving properties. Also, dried noodles are low on nutrient content but contain high amounts fat and sodium, which, according to a study conducted in South Korea, can potentially increase the risk of metabolic syndrome. The high sodium content in foods is also linked to health issues such as hypertension, heart disease, stroke, and kidney damage.
