About Construction Chemicals
Construction chemicals are a type of specialty chemicals used during the course of construction. These chemicals impart additional protection to structures such as residential buildings, industrial structures, dams, and bridge against environmental conditions, structural life, and to minimize the amount of raw material required. China has emerged as the leading market for construction chemicals since 2000, globally.
Technavio’s analysts forecast the global construction chemicals market to grow at a CAGR of 5.59% during the period 2016-2020.
Covered in this report
The report covers the present scenario and the growth prospects of the global construction chemicals market for 2016-2020. To calculate the market size, the report considers the revenue generated from the sales of construction chemicals.

Technavio Announces the Publication of its Research Report – Global Construction Chemicals Market 2016-2020
Technavio recognizes the following companies as the key players in the Global Construction Chemicals Market: BASF, Mapei, RPM, Sika, and W. R. Grace & Co
Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: 3M, Adcon, Albemarle, Arkema, Ashland, Dow Chemicals, Fosroc, Pidilite, Selena, Terraco, and Tremco
Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said: “Regulatory changes toward green and energy-efficient buildings are driving the demand for eco-friendly construction chemicals. Water-based reactive formulations are being encouraged over solvent-based formulations to support and meet the emissions regulations. Product reformulations and other efforts are made to make solvent-based products environmentally friendly. Polyurethane- and silicone-based adhesives and sealants are expected to report hasty benefits due to their higher performance. In addition to reactive adhesives and sealants, hotmelt products also foresee a healthy demand from various applications owing to their rapid cure rates, which in turn helps in fast processing. Also, hotmelt products do not emit VOC and do not pose any other harmful effects on the environment; therefore, the use of them are being encouraged by various vendors.”
According to the report, the global construction chemicals market is witnessing technological advances in production capacities and also in the enhancement of adhesive and binder properties. This has led to the development of new and improved applications of adhesives and binders. Also, owing to environmental concerns of VOC emissions, manufacturers are focusing on the development of new products. They are producing adhesives with no-added formaldehyde (NAF) resins to sustain the environmental pressures. Wood adhesives and binders with high binding strength, durability, temperature resistance, and chemical-resistance are being manufactured, which provides customers with cost-effective solutions.
Further, the report states that solvent-based coatings have a majority stake in the protective coatings market just for the fact that this technology has been existing for a longer time, and has penetrated deeper into the global market. But the solvent-based coating methods are shunned for the environmental concern the coating brings with it. A trend has been observed where prominent vendors are shifting toward environmentally friendlier options such as waterborne coatings. Powder coatings are also being increasingly preferred due to their ease of application and having the advantage of not using top coats sometimes.
