Global Chemical Peel Market 2017-2021
About Chemical Peel
Superficial or light peels are the mildest type of peels available. They only remove the top layer of the skin, known as the epidermis, and give skin an instant brighter look as well as a smoother, and more even texture. They are being demanded by the people who need to minimize the fine lines and wrinkles, mild acne scarring, sun damage, age spots, and dry or flaking skin. They are usually made from alpha hydroxy or beta hydroxy acids, including lactic acid, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid. Nowadays, natural ingredients are being used such as fruit enzymes and acids from natural sources such as pumpkins, pineapples, and cranberries with the increasing demand for natural and organic products.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said: “With the increasing beauty consciousness, more people are becoming aware of anti-aging measures such as chemical peeling. They are undergoing medical aesthetic procedures for a youthful appearance, which was increased in the recent past. The US, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, and Spain are the countries performing highest number of cosmetic procedures. There was a rise of more than 7% in skin resurfacing procedures and around 3.5% in intense pulsed light-based procedures in 2016 compared with 2015. In the medical aesthetics, the facial aesthetics segment is one of the fastest growing due to the increased preference to maintain a youthful look and its advantages such as fewer scars and pain.”
According to the report, the healthcare spending has been increased in the recent years, due to the expanded insurance coverage under the 2010 health law, revived economy, and steady rise in older population. The rise in the healthcare spending is also linked to a rise in the innovations in medical treatment.
Further, the report states that the adoption rate of facial chemical peel is low in developing countries due to the high cost. Most of the facial aesthetic products are expensive for individuals. For instance, the average price of a chemical peel ranges from $600 to $900. However, it varies widely depending on the type of the peel chosen. The cost is as low as $150 for a light peel, between $1,500-$2,000 for a medium peel, and as high as $6,000 for a deep peel. While the price of the light chemical peel is the lowest of the three types, it must be repeated multiple times for optimal results. The entire cost of the treatment includes the fees associated with the chemical peel procedure, such as the cost of anesthesia and operating room. Moreover, the cost of the treatments is high because of the monopolistic approach of vendors in this market. For instance, Allergan has acquired most of the market for facial aesthetics. Thus, this market lacks competitive pricing. Furthermore, most of the vendors target their products for the high income and upper-middle-class people.
