About Calcium Silicate
Calcium silicate, also referred to as calcium orthosilicate, is a free-flowing white powder that can be naturally derived from limestone and diatomaceous earth. Calcium silicate as a thermal insulation is made from reinforcing fibers, amorphous silica, and other additives combined with water to form a slurry. The slurry is processed through various stages until it is finally dry. The molded shapes, after drying, are trimmed and split into pieces (two or more) before they are packed. The cured and molded insulation material is a crystalline formation has more air space than water space. Thus, millions of air spaces segregated by crystalline walls result in low thermal-conductivity. The reduction in the penetration of infrared radiation makes calcium silicate an effective insulation material. Therefore, calcium silicate refers to several compounds consisting of silicon, oxygen, and calcium; all of which occur in hydrated form.
