These incubators contain a heat-retaining gel that provides better thermal insulation than water, allowing the incubator to provide better temperature stability while still maintaining the advantages of a water-jacketed incubator. These incubators also require less maintenance compared to water-jacketed incubators. With the water jacket being completely replaced with a smaller gel jacket, the incubator is less bulky. However, a gel-jacketed incubator is more expensive than a water-jacketed incubator due to which only a bench-top model has been manufactured. A floor CO₂ gel-jacketed incubator's cost would far outweigh its benefits unless better manufacturing methods have been introduced.”
