Global Bioactive Wound Care Market 2016-2020

About the Bioactive Wound Care Market

Bioactive wound care products play a critical role in the wound healing process and are derived from the artificial or natural sources. These products are formed by combining different polymers such as collagen, alginates, and silicon. In the past, different natural and synthetic dressings such as cotton wool, bandages, lint, and gauzes with varying degrees of absorption were utilized in wound management. However, many advanced wound care products have been introduced in the market in the last two decades. The purpose of these wound dressings is to keep the wound dry by allowing the evaporation of exudates from the surface of the wounds and restricting the entry of harmful microorganisms.

Technavio’s analysts forecast the global bioactive wound care market to grow at a CAGR of 13.85% during the period 2016-2020.

Press Release

Technavio Announces the Publication of its Research Report – Global Bioactive Wound Care Market 2016-2020

Technavio recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global bioactive wound care market: 3M Health Care, ConvaTec, Mölnlycke Health Care, and Smith & Nephew.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Acelity, Advanced Medical Solutions, Aso, Aspen Surgical Products, Avita Medical, B. Braun Melsungen, Bastos Viegas, BioDlogics, BSN Medical, Capilano, Cardinal Health, ConvaTec, Cytori Therapeutics, Derma Sciences, DeRoyal Industries, GELITA, Hartmann, HemCon Medical Technologies, Intercytex, Johnson and Johnson, Kinetic Concepts, Kuros Biosurgery, Lohmann & Rauscher, MacroCure, Medline Industries, Medtronic (Covidien), Meyer-Haake Medical Innovations, Nuo Therapeutics, Organogenesis, Osiris Therapeutics, ProFibrix, Regenerys, Sutherland Medical, and Tepha.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said: “A trend which is expected to boost market growth is the increased demand for combination dressings. The increase in demand for combination dressings for chronic wounds is one of the major trends in the global bioactive wound care market. Combination dressings blend the chemical and physical properties of two or more types of wound dressing products to provide optimal functionality. Generally, an antimicrobial agent and a biological material together act as a combination dressing. The commonly used combination dressings are silver collagen dressings, silver alginate dressings, collagen hydrochloride dressings, and foam dressings. These dressings are mainly used in treating chronic ulcers, traumatic wounds, and surgical wounds.”

According to the report, a key growth driver is the prevalence of chronic wounds. Diabetes and obesity can make people of all age groups susceptible to heart disease, stroke, and certain types of cancer. In 2013, WHO estimated that about 347 million people worldwide had diabetes, which accounted for more than 80% deaths in medium- and low-income countries. The organization also estimated that Type 2 diabetes accounted for 85%-95% of the overall diabetes cases in developed countries, with an even higher percentage in developing countries. In 2014, the WHO estimated that diabetes will become the seventh leading cause of mortality by 2030 worldwide.

Further, the report states that one challenge that could derail market growth is the availability of alternatives. Some of the alternative options for wound healing include device-based products, wound biologics, and traditional dry wound products.
