The X-band radar is a self-propelled, floating, mobile active electronically scanned array early-warning radar station that can operate in extreme conditions with high winds and heavy seas. It was developed as part of the Missile Defense Agency's Ballistic Missile Defense System.
X-band radar frequency is used in defense, government, and commercial applications for air traffic control, weather monitoring, defense tracking, naval vessel traffic control, and vehicle speed detection for law enforcement.
The different types of radars used in these applications are as follows — single-polarization, continuous wave, pulsed, dual-polarization, phased array, and synthetic aperture radars.
