A dynamometer or dyno is an automotive test equipment used by OEMs, component suppliers (tier-I and tier-II), and automotive testing service providers for recording several parameters, such as force, torque, power, and speed of the vehicle. There are predominantly two types of dyno used in the automotive industry: engine dyno and chassis dyno. Engine dyno performs the engine-testing service of measuring power and torque directly from its coupled engine. Chassis dyno measures the drivetrain output, such as torque and power at the drive wheels. The use of this testing equipment is essential throughout the production cycle of an automobile, making it a necessary component of all vehicle assembly lines.
