Global Automotive Throttle Body Assembly Market 2017-2021
About Automotive Throttle Body Assembly
The throttle body is the part of the air intake system that controls the amount of air, which flow into an engine's combustion chamber. It consists of a housing unit that contains a throttle plate or butterfly valve, which rotates on a shaft.
Technavio’s analysts forecast the global automotive throttle body assembly market to grow at a CAGR of 2.97% during the period 2017-2021.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said: “The latest trend gaining momentum in the market is Growing popularity of throttle body spacers. A throttle body spacer is an additional component added to the throttle body to pump more air into the engine, thereby, increasing the performance of the engine. In the old carburetor engines, throttle body spacers were used to manipulate the air intake, which affected the way fuel was mixed, whereas, in fuel injection engines, they only enhance the air intake capacity.”
According to the report, one of the major drivers for this market is Increasing demand for individual throttle bodies. Individual throttle bodies (ITBs) provide better throttle response than regular ones. In ITBs, each cylinder gets its own butterfly valve regulating air intake, rather than all cylinders sharing one valve. In case of single throttle bodies, when throttle is applied by the driver, air has to travel further to reach each cylinder, which results in slower throttle response. However, in engines with ITBs, air enters instantaneously as soon as throttle is applied, which results in quicker throttle response. ITBs also help reduce pumping losses at partial throttle.
Further, the report states that one of the major factors hindering the growth of this market is High replacement costs. Throttle body is responsible for controlling the rate of airflow that moves into the engine. The ECU performs the calculations of the amount of fuel to be injected for the amount of air that the throttle body allows into the engine based on the input provided by the TPS.
