Global Automotive Engine Heater Market 2017-2021

About Automotive Engine Heater

An engine heater warms an automotive engine and helps in the start and warm up of the engine in a shorter period, which normally takes longer in extreme cold weather conditions. The most common type of engine heater used in automotive application is the electric heating element in the cylinder block. This heating element is connected through a power cord routed through the vehicle's grille. This type of heater is known as engine block heater and replaces one of the engine's core plugs. The heater element is immersed in the engine's coolant, which keeps most parts of the engine warm.

Technavio’s analysts forecast the global automotive engine heater market to grow at a CAGR of 3.70% during the period 2017-2021.

Press Release

Technavio Announces the Publication of its Research Report – Global Automotive Engine Heater Market 2017-2021

Technavio recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global automotive engine heater market: DEFA, HOTSTART, MAHLE, Phillips & Temro Industries, and Five star Manufacturing Group.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Wolverine Heaters, Calix AB, and Webasto.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said: “One trend in the market is engine block heaters for hybrid vehicles. Hybrid cars are the desired choice of consumers, mainly because of their environment-friendly nature. However, this characteristic losses its value when hybrid vehicle owners idle their cars during winter mornings to warm them. In addition to the unnecessary burning of the fuel, idling also increases the vehicle emission levels.”

According to the report, one driver in the market is engine heater reduces stress on engine and other components. The engine heater warms the engine block, which, in turn, warms the engine oil and coolant. This helps the oil and the coolant to thin out, allowing it to lubricate the engine's moving parts faster than when they are cold. An engine heater is an absolute necessity in places where the winters are harsh and frigid. The use of engine heaters can reduce engine wear by up to 50%. Starting the vehicle in cold weather is a cause of premature engine wear. Hence, using an engine heater is easier on the engine as a pre-warmed engine places less demand on the components. The engine heater also protects the engine parts that may have contracted due to extremely low temperatures. Subsequently, the battery and the starter motor benefit from the use of an engine heater.

Further, the report states that one challenge in the market is increasing demand for electric vehicles (EVs). The demand for EVs is growing at a fast rate across the world. Countries are striving to suffice the rising fuel demand by focusing on sustainable transportation. EVs reduce the dependency of consumers on gasoline/diesel-based automobiles, and also help in decarbonizing the transport sector. EVs are energy-efficient and convert about 58%-62% of the electrical energy from the grid to power at the wheel, unlike conventional gasoline vehicles, which only convert about 17%-21% of the energy stored in gasoline to power the wheels.
