About the Automotive Dyno Market
A dynamometer or dyno is an automotive test equipment used by OEMs, component suppliers (Tier I and Tier II), and automotive testing service providers for recording several parameters such as force, torque, power, and speed of the vehicle. There are predominantly two types of dyno used in the automotive industry: the engine dyno and chassis dyno. Engine dyno performs engine testing service of measuring power and torque directly from its coupled engine. Chassis dyno measures drivetrain output such as torque and power at the drive wheels. The use of this testing equipment is essential throughout the production cycle of an automobile, making it a necessary component of all vehicle assembly lines. This testing equipment is also used in vehicle engine manufacturing factories and dynamometer laboratories or the automotive testing service facilities to evaluate vehicle and engine performance. Though the automotive industry has evolved since the invention of the first car by Karl Friedrich Benz in the 1880s, it is very interesting to note that not all the components of the automobile have become obsolete. A vehicle's 19th century technologies such as the internal combustion engine still form the basis of vehicle propulsion technology. However, the industry has witnessed several technologies and several new upgrades; one such example is the rising electronic content per vehicle. Testing for vehicle and engine performance becomes essential in the wake of additions and conversions from new technologies.
Technavio’s analysts forecast the Global Automotive Dyno Market to grow at a CAGR of 3.05% during the period 2016-2020.

Technavio Announces the Publication of its Research Report – Global Automotive Dyno Market 2016-2020
Technavio recognizes the following companies as the key players in the Global Automotive Dyno Market: AVL, Meidensha, SAKOR, SuperFlow, and Taylor Dyno.
Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Application Engineering, Bosch, D2T, Delphi, Dynamometer World, Froude Hofmann, HORIBA, KAHN, Mustang Advanced Engineering (MAE), Mustang Dynamometer, NTS, Rototest International, Schenck RoTec, SGS, and Sierra.
Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said: “One trend which will propel market growth is the need for modernizing dynamometers. The European Union is likely to enforce new noise limits for cars, vans, and heavy-duty vehicles by 2020 and 2024. The pressure to adopt the same stems from Member of European Parliament (MEPS) and a legislation that recommends new cars to be labelled to provide consumers with noise-level information. This will eventually lead to the need for lesser noise emissions from cars and testing for the same. The root causes of such noises can be determined by specially designed chassis dynamometers.”
According to the report, a key growth driver is the cost pressure faced by OEMs. Auto OEMs are subject to heavy cost pressures due to the dynamism in the regulatory environment and demanding consumer base. Environment and safety standards are pressurizing OEMs to find means to comply with regulations, while not transmitting additional costs to the consumer. Controlling emissions is bound to increase the cost of the vehicle.
Further, the report states that one challenge that will likely restrict market growth is the unorganized automotive industry and low awareness of dynamometer testing in the aftermarket. "
