Alkaline batteries are composed of zinc and manganese dioxide as electrodes. The alkaline electrolyte used in the manufacturing process of batteries is either sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide. Alkaline batteries have a steady voltage, offering high energy density and leakage resistance compared with carbon-zinc batteries. This is mainly because of the manganese dioxide in the anode, which is very dense and pure, thereby reducing the space taken up by internal components.
