Global Agricultural Films Market 2017-2021

About Agricultural Films

Agricultural films are used to protect crops or fodder from the wind, rain, and other environmental effects that may damage the harvest or cattle feed. Greenhouse and mulch films are used to protect crops, and silage films are used to extend the life of the fodder by safeguarding it from harsh environmental effects. Greenhouse films are used to cover greenhouse structures. These films can evenly distribute the heat within the structure. Mulch films are long sheets that are laid on farms, and crops grow through it.

Technavio’s analysts forecast the global agricultural films market to grow at a CAGR of 7.18% during the period 2017-2021.

Press Release

Technavio Announces the Publication of its Research Report – Global Agricultural Films Market 2017-2021
Technavio recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global agricultural films market: BASF, Berry Plastics, Exxon Mobile, and The Dow Chemical Company.
Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Trioplast, AEP Industries, RPC bpi, Barbier, Kuraray, Armando Alvarez Group, and RKW Group.
Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said: “The latest trend gaining momentum in the market is growing popularity of high-barrier EVOH films. Ethylene and vinyl alcohol (EVOH) is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic random copolymer. In agricultural films, generally, EVOH is a layer between PE films. A small layer of EVOH increases gas properties by 10,000 times than normal low-density polyethylene. EVOH films are mainly used for two applications in agriculture. The first one is used for mulch (fumigation) and other for silage films. It is also used in greenhouse films to contain carbon dioxide inside the greenhouse.”
According to the report, one of the major drivers for this market is growing food demand and shrinking farm lands. In last one century, 1915–2015, the population growth across the globe has quadrupled. In 2015, the world population stood at 7.3 billion people. It is estimated to reach 8.5 billion by 2030. The demand for food rises with the increase in population. It is estimated that the food demand is expected to increase by 35%–40% by 2030.

Further, the report states that one of the major factors hindering the growth of this market is high initial cost of setup. Greenhouses are several types depending on the type of growers. If the grower is a hobbyist then the initial cost while installing is low. This is because the structure can be temporary or lose, and can be completely made from a film. However, these structures cannot be used by serious growers who need to produce crops and plants in copious quantities. The need for greenhouses to grow extensive amounts of crops will cost higher.
