Acousto-optics is a branch of physics that involves the study of interactions between sound waves and light waves. The principle of acousto-optics is achieved by the diffraction of laser light using ultrasound waves, which pass through an ultrasonic grating. The diffracted image captures the acousto-optic effect. Acousto-optic devices are used to regulate laser beams and modulate and deflect these beams in an optical medium. Some of the devices using this principle include modulators, deflectors, tunable filters, and frequency shifters.
